The lamp also attaches to tables, bookshelves, and desks. The neck of the lamp is about 6 inches long and needs to be attached to a post or something. The clip opens roughly 1.5" and is very strong with rubber on the inside. The lamp is not obtrusive and has several brightness settings. The lamp has rechargeable built-in battery and includes a USB connection cord to recharge it. The battery lasts quite a while between recharges on lower light settings. The lamp is indoor use only and plugs into a wall outlet.
