Does it work on tile?
répondre: I assume you mean wall tile. Yes the magnets are probably strong enough to pick up a ferrous (steel) nail or screw in the drywall (and wood 2x4 stud) but 1) the tile would need to be thin and 2) i feel that screw position marking will be a slow and imperfect process. It’s probably better to remove the tile and possibly replace it once the studs are located and mapped on the wall. -

répondre: Your joists are typically 24” on center and 2x8 or 2x10 are 16” on center. The Sheetrock is screwed closer than that. So find a series of screws or nails in a row and that should tell you -

répondre: I think the magnets within would sense the nails-screws in the ceiling but getting a good location spot will be as difficult as signing your name while walking barefoot on lego cub -

With a strong and powerful magnet, it can easily detect nails and screws embedded into wood 2x4 studs. The device has a level tool built-in that helps in finding screws or nails in line with the first one found. The depth to which it senses nails is not specified, but according to the reviews, it is deep enough to be effective. Although it works well with plaster walls, it might not work well with wall tiles, especially on thick ones. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry around, and it can be used on ceilings and over carpets. This stud finder has a rubber coating which prevents it from scratching walls while in use.
